Yes, Systeme.io lets you import an existing email list, typically from a CSV file of contacts. You can also tag contacts as you bring them in. Import options and any limits can change, so confirm the current details on the official Systeme.io site before you start.
Before you import
Importing a list is only worth doing if you have permission to email those people. Rules differ by country, and consent is the main issue. If you are unsure whether your list qualifies, check with a legal professional. See also Is Systeme.io GDPR compliant for email marketing?
- Export your list from your current tool as a CSV file.
- Keep at least an email address column. First name is useful for personalization.
- Remove bounced, unsubscribed and obviously fake addresses.
- Note where each group of contacts came from, so you can tag them.
Basic steps
- Log in and open the contacts area of your dashboard.
- Look for the import option and upload your CSV file.
- Match each column in your file (email, first name and so on) to the correct field.
- Choose a tag to apply to the imported contacts, such as the source or date.
- Confirm the import, then spot-check a few contacts to make sure the data landed correctly.
The exact labels and screens may differ from what is described here, so follow the on-screen prompts and the official help documentation.

- Consent history may not carry over. Keep your own records of how and when people signed up.
- Old automations don't transfer. You will need to rebuild sequences and rules. Automation Rules vs Workflows in Systeme.io explains the options.
- Cold or old lists carry risk. If people haven't heard from you in a long time, a big first send can lead to spam complaints and poor deliverability. Consider starting with a short, friendly re-introduction to a small group.
- Plan limits may apply. Contact counts and sending caps depend on your plan. Check How many emails can you send per month with Systeme.io? and the current pricing page.
After importing
Tag people by source or interest so you can send relevant emails instead of blasting everyone. Our guide on tagging and segmenting contacts shows how. Then you can send a first message using the newsletter and broadcast guide.
